In a first-of-its-kind milestone for Prajwala, a Bangladeshi survivor testified from Dhaka through video conferencing, marking a significant step in cross-border justice delivery. The verdict, delivered last evening, resulted in the conviction of an Indian trafficker, sentencing him to three years of rigorous imprisonment.
While several traffickers from Bangladesh escaped prosecution due to the case not being investigated as a cross-border crime, this conviction offers renewed hope for future transnational accountability and justice.
This milestone was made possible with the committed support of our Bangladeshi partner Justice & Care, who worked closely with us to ensure the survivor’s participation in the trial—an immense responsibility we were proud to shoulder.
We also place on record our appreciation for the judicial officer who demonstrated openness and sensitivity by permitting testimony through video conferencing, setting an important precedent for survivor-centric justice.
